• Colorado%20Kids Investing in the Next Generation of Americans The decisions Congress makes can seem far removed from everyday life of a Colorado kid but the decisions we make in Washington affect what our country will look like in future generations when the kids of today are in charge nbsp Things I Want to Accomplish There are so many things that need to be improved or fixed to make sure kids are healthy well educated and inherit a better world nbsp Below is a list of a few things I rsquo m working on right now Rebuilding our economy so parents and families have as many opportunities as possible Creating new jobs so families can support themselves and take care of their kids Finding new a different sources of energy and reducing energy use Protecting our natural resources Recruiting and training the best teachers and principals so all kids get a world class education Reducing the cost of obtaining a college education because the cost of education shouldn rsquo t keep anyone from pursuing their dreams Keeping kids healthy and making sure all kids can get health care when they need it Improving school meals so the meals are tasty fresh and healthy Eliminating childhood hunger nbsp and child poverty Did You Know Sometimes it is hard to figure out how the bills Congress passes and the President signs into law affect you nbsp Here are a few things that have happened in the past 18 months that directly affect Colorado kids nbsp Almost 9 000 additional Coloradans will get a Pell Grant this year to help them afford college Kids starting college now will not have to pay more than 10 percent of their income to pay back their college loans and if they pay on time their loans will get forgiven after 20 years Beginning this fall health insurance plans will never again be allowed to deny kids coverage based on whether they were sick or had an illness in the past also called a ldquo pre existing condition rdquo Kids will be able to stay on their parents coverage up to 26 years old Resource Center Are you doing a School Project on the U S Government the Legislative Process the History of our Country nbsp Here are links to resources that might be helpful to you The Constitution About the nbsp U S Government Colorado How a Bill Becomes a Law nbsp ...
