Chaffetz Seeks Answers from DHS about Arrest of Former Senate Intern

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jason Chaffetz sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano seeking answers to better understand the facts and circumstances surrounding the arrest of Luis Abrahan Sanchez Zavalet, a former intern for US Senator Robert Menendez. Sanchez has been living in the United States illegally and is a registered sex offender.

Chaffetz expressed his concern with the timing of the arrest saying: “According to the AP, upon being notified by ICE officials in New Jersey about the possibility of arresting Sanchez, ‘DHS instructed them not to arrest Sanchez until after the November election… they considered it a potentially high profile arrest.’”
