  1. The chart below – prepared by Chairman Paul Ryan and the House Budget Committee – shows what happens to projected levels of tax revenue (green) if President Obama’s tax increases kick in (blue), and compares that with recent and projected spending levels (red). As the chart clearly shows, we MUST address our spending problem in order to avert the fiscal cliff and prevent a debt crisis. I have zero confidence in your leadership thus far. I'm a military constituent raised in Murfreesboro. I wish you would be more vocal and active in the solutions to our economic challenges. I see nothing from you on CSPAN which makes me think your doing Nothing. Why did I vote for you again? Please do something..

  3. 180 ECONOMISTS OPPOSE TAX HIKE: 180 economists, including a former Director of the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office and a former Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, sent a letter to Congress today saying that increasing taxes as part of a deal on the so-called fiscal cliff, “would likely slow or reverse our nation’s fragile economic recovery and undermine long-term growth.” Rather than raising taxes, we need to focus on cutting spending and putting America back on a fiscally sustainable and prosperous path.

  5. In Case You Missed It: News Channel 4 did a great story about the "Rally Point" event hosted for middle Tennessee veterans last week. It was a very effective way to get the word out to veterans and their families about the resources and opportunities available in their community. We look forward to hosting more of these kind of events throughout the 6th District.
  6. Today, another state is expected to give individuals the right not to join a union. President Obama and union activists want voters to believe that right-to-work laws somehow deny union organizing rights and ban collective bargaining. However, that is completely divorced from reality.

As we have seen firsthand in Tennessee and the other 22 right-to-work states, right-to-work merely allows individual workers to decide for themselves if they want to join a union. Also, WSJ points out, "of the 10 states with the highest rate of personal income growth, eight have right-to-work laws."

  7. My statement on Governor Haslam's decision not to implement a government-run "state based exchange:"

ll as aggressive oversight and an unwavering commitment from the Republican lead House to roll back the president’s disastrous health care law. Governor Haslam’s decision today underscores the unavoidable challenges that he and other Governors, state legislators, employers and consumers are facing as they seek to navigate massive new government bureaucracy, regulations and ongoing uncertainty caused by this law.

“Since my days in the Tennessee legislature, I have fought against both a state and federal takeover of health care, and I will continue to lead the charge in the U.S. House of Representatives to fully repeal Obamacare. As a nurse for more than 40 years, I believe that in order to truly make health care more affordable and accessible, we must advance patient-centered, market-based reforms.”

  8. Associated Press reports today about a hidden insurance fee in Obamacare regulation that will be passed on to consumers: "Based on figures provided in the regulation, employer and individual health plans covering an estimated 190 million Americans could owe the per-person fee." 9. I had a great time today meeting with local veterans at “Rally Point,” a free event at the Gallatin Civic Center that connected veterans and their families with services and resources in their community, such as VA claim assistance, vocational rehabilitation, education, employment, mental health, housing and business loans. My office along with the offices of Senators Bob Corker and Lamar Alexander, as well as Sumner County Executive Anthony Holt, Gallatin City Mayor Jo Ann G...
raves, the Tennessee Department of Veterans Affairs and the Gallatin Civic Center, all helped to host this very successful event. As a mother, wife and daughter of servicemen, I believe that our brave military men and women - both those who have served and continue to serve – deserve the utmost respect. It was an honor to be able to thank some of them in person today for their heroic service to our nation.

  10. December 7, 1941 - "a day which will live in infamy.” God bless the men and women who lost their lives in Pearl Harbor 71 years ago today. Thank you to all our veterans for their service and sacrifice.
  11. Check out the House Small Business Committee's "open mic".... Small businesses owners shared how raising their tax rates will slow growth and hurt their ability to hire new workers. With more than 23 million Americans struggling for work, leaders in Washington should not be doing anything that makes it harder for the unemployed to get back to work.

  16. This morning on MSNBC's "Daily Rundown" I called for President Obama to stop his demands for job-killing tax hikes and finally get serious about the fiscal cliff! The House Republicans have passed legislation that stops the tax hikes for ALL Americans, and we have replaced the president's defense sequester with responsible spending cuts. Ultimately, in order to prevent our looming debt crisis, we need spending cuts, entitlement reform, economic growth.. and NO tax hikes. 17. The United Nation’s decision yesterday to recognize the non-existent Palestinian state (the Palestine Liberation Organization) as a non-member observer state is reckless and irresponsible. As rockets rained over Israel from Gaza and took the lives of innocent Israelis, the PLO President Abu Mazen did not condemn the attacks, instead he congratulated Hamas for its efforts to murder Israeli civilians. This recognition of the PLO will not only be detrimental to our ally Israel, ...
but it will have far reaching consequences for Middle East peace and stability in the region. It is incredibly disappointing that so many nations in the UN decided to support the Palestinian statehood scheme, instead of supporting a bilateral, two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians. The only way to achieve true, lasting peace is through direct negotiations between the Palestinians and Israel. SHARE & "LIKE" this post if you believe that we need to stand with our ally Israel and that no taxpayer dollars should be given to the PLO!
