Black’s Statement on Governor Haslam’s Decision Not to Implement a “State Based Exchange”

GALLATIN, TN – Congressman Diane Black (R-TN) today released the following statement on Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam’s decision not to implement a government-run “state based exchange” under the president’s health care law:

“With the Democrats still in control of Washington, we need bold leadership from governors and state legislatures across the country as well as aggressive oversight and an unwavering commitment from the Republican lead House to roll back the president’s disastrous health care law. Governor Haslam’s decision today underscores the unavoidable challenges that he and other Governors, state legislators, employers and consumers are facing as they seek to navigate massive new government bureaucracy, regulations and ongoing uncertainty caused by this law.

“Since my days in the Tennessee legislature, I have fought against both a state and federal takeover of health care, and I will continue to lead the charge in the U.S. House of Representatives to fully repeal Obamacare. As a nurse for more than 40 years, I believe that in order to truly make health care more affordable and accessible, we must advance patient-centered, market-based reforms.”
