Cummings Reelected Ranking Member of House Oversight Committee PDF Print

Washington, DC (Dec. 5, 2012) – Today, the House Democratic Caucus reelected Rep. Elijah E. Cummings to serve as Ranking Member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee in the 113th Congress.

“I am honored to continue serving as Ranking Member and look forward to working with Committee Members on issues that go to the very heart of the lives of the American people,” said Cummings. “I am hopeful the Chairman and I can devise an agenda that addresses the challenges facing our economy and housing market, ensures effective implementation of Obamacare, and improves government efficiency so that each of us has a fair shot at achieving the American dream.”

Under Ranking Member Cummings’s leadership, Committee Democrats have conducted vigorous oversight to address the housing and foreclosure crisis, protect the health, safety and pocketbooks of Americans, increase diversity in the military, and cut government waste.

Ranking Member Cummings launched a number of investigations that examined important issues such as “drug speculation” by “gray market” drug companies, executive compensation, and alleged efforts to suppress the vote. Cummings’s legislative successes include passage of a new law to strengthen protections for whistleblowers and his work to help servicemembers stay in their homes.
