»I know POTUS will stick the blame on the Republicans no matter what happens with the fiscal cliff, so you must do the right thing. Do not cave in and side with Boehner. We must have spending cuts equal to any tax increases or we will never be able to reduce the debt. The time is now to show the voters of Nebraska that you were the right person for the job.
»While the Conn school shootings was a sad day for many, Washington burns for lack of a bill to fix the AMT, retaining the so called Bush tax cuts including keeping the capital gains boat afloat as it is.
I just want to know what I may and may not do in the near future. I have no position on the taxing of people who make six figures, I have no hope of making half that in any one year. Unless congress does it's REAL job, AMT will eat everybody alive. Buying and selling assets will not be practical if congress eats any hope of progress by doing nothing.
Unless Congress acts, I may have no choice but to sell everything and sit on the sidelines. That is unacceptable.

Instead of making useless speaches, please do something pro active about the US ship of state's finances instead of waiting on bad leadership to tell you how to vote.
»Great ideas Ken but why stop there? Eliminate unemployment benefits, aid to dependent children, the CDC, the FDIC, all government funded basic research, veterans benefits, all highway and water treatment funding (except that going on in Nebraska), student grant and loan programs, the Supreme Court (that upheld the communist Affordable Health Care Act) and innumerable other boondoggles. Also give every citizen a handgun and a semiautomatic gun which will enable dramatic reductions in police funding since vigilante groups will ensure a lawful society!
»I sure hope that "Lee is listening", because this suggestion is rational and it's obvious that Lee's constituents favor approaches like Allen's over those they hear from the extreme right wing. In any case, it's obvious that nothing will be done about the expiration of these tax cuts until after the election. If voters elect Obama, then Republicans should drop their opposition to raising taxes on the wealthy and enact a solution like what Allen is suggesting here. Obviously, if Romney is elected, Democrats will have to accept cuts in spending without tax hikes on the wealthy. Again, the real question is, "Is Lee Listening?"

»My family's joint income is around $90,000. After deducting mortgage interest and charitable deductions my effective tax rate last year was about 6.9%. My best year was just a little under 3%. Mitt's rate is so low because he donated 14% of his income to charity. That resulted in lowering his effective rate to 14% but comparing that to your marginal rate before deductions is apples to oranges. Mitt paid a higher tax rate than 97% of Americans.
»No, that is not what the 47% number is. The 47 percent number is the number of people that either paid no income tax or those who after their tax refund their effective rate was 0% (or less).

»You've been duped Gregg. This figure of 47% is the number of people who don't owe anything more at the end of the year. So if you've ever received a rebate check from the IRS, you'd be one those 47% too. However, folks that make way too much money have never seen a rebate check and just assume that poor people just don't pay taxes because they don't owe anything extra at the end of the year.

EXAMPLE A: MITT ROMNEY.
My family's combined income is just over $100,000.00. Like you, I've always paid federal income taxes. Over the last decade, at least, our rate was always over 20%. Mitt's income is something like $20million, and he paid only 13.9% (and he won't release more than a year or two's worth of records). Trust me, that 20% meant alot more to my family than Mitt's 14% meant to his. THAT'S HOW WE CAN TELL YOU THAT THE RICH AREN'T PAYING THEIR FAIR SHARE. (And there are many more people like Mitt.)
»Hey Gregg, find one of those people not paying taxes and TRADE PLACES WITH THEM!!! I guarantee you would no longer complain. You are defending billionaires with more money that they know what to fo with, while complaing about people who are dirt poor not paying any taxes. Just ask yourself WWJD?
»Many people to do not realize the income tax is not about taxing money as it is about manipulating how money is used. Raise the tax rates on rich people and they will just buy tax free government bonds and put more money in to an IRA account. Best to keep the tax rates low for everyone.

Which fiscal cliff option do you feel is in the best interest of the great people of the 2nd District?

I WANT THE “BIG DEAL” - Spending cuts, tax reform and structural reforms, like Simpson-Bowles, to strengthen Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. But unfortunately, that is not an option up for a vote today.
