OMAHA, NE – Congressman Lee Terry (R-NE), along with fellow Nebraska colleague Congressman Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE), released the following letter sent today to House Speaker John Boehner:

Dear Speaker Boehner,

We are deeply troubled by what we are learning about the terrorist assault in Benghazi, Libya that killed U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.

Recently revealed emails demonstrating the Administration’s early knowledge of the planned attack, meant to kill Americans at the U.S. consulate, raise serious questions as to lack of judgment and why no action was taken to help, even after assistance had been requested.

We are concerned about what effect these recent revelations might have on our troops’ morale and worry that the lack of action in Benghazi points to more systemic issues concerning diplomatic security, particularly in the Middle East.

Moreover, in light of this tragic event, we are deeply concerned with ensuring the safety and morale of our local military men andwomen, who serve honorably all over the world, preserving our freedom.  We need to be able to look them in the eye and tell them that their nation will not abandon them as they work to complete their missions.

We are pleased to know that a series of oversight hearings are planned to address this matter with appropriate urgency, and respectfully request a thorough review of administration decisions made both before and after the assault.  Individuals who make the sacrifice to serve the United States in complex and difficult circumstances deserve to have confidence that the Administration and Congress are fully committed to their security.
