Terry Statement on August Unemployment Report PDF Print

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Lee Terry (R-NE) today released the following statement regarding the Department of Labor’s unemployment report for August 2012:

“More and more people are losing their faith in the American dream.  For the 43rd consecutive month, the unemployment rate has been over 8 percent.  What is more troubling is that 368,000 people have given up looking for work."

“This is affecting people everywhere.  I have visited with folks and small businessowners in Nebraska this past month and they keep asking me the same thing:  where are the jobs and what is going to happen in January?  This uncertainty is leaving people worried about their future and causing small business owners to hold off on hiring new employees or expanding their businesses."

“My number one goal is to make sure that people who want to work can find a job.  I voted to stop taxing small businesses and have vote time and time again for bills that create jobs, such as the Keystone pipeline.  We can’t keep having months like August where for every 1 job added, 4 people leave the jobs market.  We need to get the economy back on track and put people back to work.”
