Terry Statement on STRATCOM Contract PDF Print

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Lee Terry (R-NE) today released the following statement after the Army Corps of Engineers awarded the first contract to build the U.S. Strategic Command (STRATCOM) headquarters at Offutt Air Force Base has been awarded to KiewitPhelps. The estimated completion date is September 11, 2016.

Terry has been a leader in the effort to locate STRATCOM at Offutt AFB. The new headquarters will replace the current 54-year-old and technologically outdated headquarters which in recent years has suffered flood and electrical damage.

The new headquarters will fully serve STRATCOM, which oversees the nation's nuclear stockpile, missile defense system, space satellites, and cyber space.

"Finally! The Nebraska delegation has worked too hard on this for too many years for this not to become a reality. It is that important," Terry stated. "I appreciate everyone who has kept this important project on track. Our nation's security and the safety of every American are truly at stake."
