2013 Presidential Inauguration Tickets

Issues: The Inauguration of President Obama

The 57th Presidential Inauguration Swearing-in Ceremonies will be held at the West Front of The Capitol on Monday, January 21, 2013. This historic event brings hundreds of thousands of people to Washington, DC to witness the President take the oath of office and celebrate our democracy. Nearly two million Americans came to Washington D.C. to witness the 56th Inaugural Ceremonies in January of 2009.

You do not need a ticket to be able to view the Inaugural Ceremony on the National Mall, which extends from The Capitol to the Wasington Monument.

However, the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies has allocated an extremely limited number of reserved tickets to Members of Congress for viewing the ceremony much closer to the West Front of the Capitol.

Given the small quantity of reserved tickets, my office will conduct a lottery to distribute those tickets to constituents who live in New York's 14th Congressional District.

To participate in the lottery, please enter your zip code below to validate that you live in the district. Once your address has been validated, you will be directed to a web form where you enter your contact information and submit it to the lottery. Winners will receive two (2) reserved tickets. The deadline is 12 noon, Friday, December 21st; those who win the lottery will receive notification by email later than day.

Please understand that submitting this request does not guarantee you will receive a ticket. Be sure to pursue tickets with your Senators or the Inaugural Committee's public process for the greatest chance of receiving reserved tickets.

But please consider joining the festivities regardless of whether you receive reserved tickets or not. (We are unable to provide tickets to any other inaugural activity.)

To reach the National Mall on your own, the best way is by Washington's subway, the Metro-- especially given the many street closures that will be conducted for the Inauguation.

The following Washington Metro stations provide the closest access:

  • Federal Center (at 3rd and D Streets, SW); blue or orange lines
  • L'Enfant Plaza (at Maryland Avenue and 7th Street, SW); blue, orange, green or yellow lines
  • Archives-Navy Memorial (at Pennsylvania Avenue and 7th Street, NW); green or yellow lines
  • Smithsonian (at 12th Street on the Mall, SW); blue or orange lines
  • Federal Triangle (12th Street between Pennsylvania and Constitution Avenues, NW); blue or orange lines

You may want to use the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s Metro Rail Trip Planner to calculate the best route from where you are coming from. Many Metro stations outside the Washington Beltway have parking garages which could enable you to park and take Metro to the National Mall-- helping you avoid driving in Washington's difficult-for-newcomers street layout.

Please remember that hotels and accommodations will book out quickly; it is best to get started on reservations as far in advance as possible.

Enjoy your visit!
