Maloney forums on disaster aid assist small businesses affected by Hurricane Sandy

I convened two forums in Manhattan and Queens in late November where Federal, State, and City officials provided small business owners with information on accessing disaster aid. The forums were held at Baruch College on Manhattan’s East Side (shown at right) and at Manducati’s Rustica restaurant in Long Island City.

Burmese activist Aung San Suu Kyi receives Congressional Gold Medal

I was proud to meet Burmese activist Aung San Suu Kyi after she received the Congressional Gold Medal in Washington on Sept. 19. President Obama visited Burma in November and met with President Thein Sein and Aung San Suu Kyi and delivers a speech to encourage Burma’s ongoing democratic transition.

Maloney (D Manhattan & Queens) today released a statement applauding the diversity in the ranks of the 113th Congress that was officially sworn in this week. “I am thrilled to serve in the most diverse party caucus in the most diverse Congress in history. I am particularly excited that so many women are joining our ranks,” said Representative Maloney (see photograph, below*).  Representative Maloney is a former Co-Chair of the Congressional Caucus on Women’s Issues and the chief House sponsor of the Equal Rights Amendment that would enshrine the principle of equality between the sexes in the U.S. Constitution.
