RICHMOND JOINS WINNER OF CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION FOR OFFICIAL UNVEILING CEREMONY

Jun 27, 2012

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Today, Congressman Cedric Richmond (LA-02) joined Anna Koeferl, the winner of the Second Congressional District Art Competition, for the unveiling of her award winning painting. Ms. Koeferl’s painting, “Mountain Portrait,” was unveiled at the annual Congressional Art Competition reception in Washington, DC and will be displayed in the Capitol Building for one year.

“Each year, the Congressional Arts Competition gives us an opportunity to officially recognize the artistic talents of our youth,” said Congressman Richmond. “Much of what makes the city of New Orleans so unique is historically tied to the creative talent of its residents, so it seems only fitting to honor Anna and all of the talented young men and women who submitted their work for consideration this year. We have a responsibility to preserve, support, and celebrate our arts community.”

Ms. Koeferl and her family were flown to Washington, D.C. for the unveiling ceremony.

The runners-up in the 2012 Second Congressional District Art Competition were Natalia Carter (Cabrini Senior High School) and Estelle Lemmler (Louise S. McGehee School).   Ms. Carter’s work will be displayed in Congressman Richmond’s Washington, D.C. office and Ms. Lemmler’s work will be displayed in Congressman Richmond’s New Orleans, LA office.

The Congressional Arts Competition has been held annually since 1982.  Since then, over 650,000 high school students have participated.  It is sponsored by the Congressional Institute.
