NTIA dodges Gardner’s questions on EAGLE-Net

WASHINGTON D.C. – The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) has provided what can only be described as an evasive response to Congressman Cory Gardner’s (R-CO) request for answers about EAGLE-Net’s broadband service.

“NTIA’s response was not only inadequate in answering any of our questions, but it almost defended the gross overreach of EAGLE-Net’s original scope,” Gardner said.  “You would think that after EAGLE-Net’s grant was suspended, the agency that manages those funds would be more willing to work with Congress to get to the bottom of what happened.”

Earlier this month, EAGLE-Net had its $100 million grant suspended for not following the rules.  Prior to that, members of Congress were scrutinizing EAGLE-Net’s operations and charged that the broadband provider was overbuilding existing networks and putting rural telecomm providers out of business.
