Gardner commends extended grazing

WASHINGTON D.C. – Congressman Cory Gardner (R-CO) commended the authorization of emergency grazing for Logan, Lincoln and Washington Counties for 2013 and released the following statement:

“The recent drought has been especially hard on Colorado’s agricultural community, leaving them with less water for crops and less available land for livestock grazing.  Farmers and ranchers have been telling us for months that they need this additional acreage to keep their livestock healthy and viable, and we are glad to see these three counties receive it.  However, there are still some affected counties, and it is my hope that USDA expands the emergency grazing to include them as well.”

Last year, Gardner asked the United States Department of Agriculture to open up land that is part of the Conservation Reserve Program for Colorado counties affected by the drought.  His office has also worked closely with FSA in Washington D.C. and FSA Washington County Executive Director Woody Woods on this issue.
