  1. I’ll be on MSNBC’s Martin Bashir Show at 4:45 this afternoon. We’ll be talking about the fiscal cliff and why cuts to Social Security and Medicare should not be part of any deal. Hope you can tune in!
  2. ICYMI: I was on The Real Story on Fox CT on Sunday talking about the fiscal cliff and why preventing sequestration will protect eastern Connecticut jobs. Here’s the video:
  3. Good news that the Senate followed the House yesterday in supporting legislation to ensure two-subs-per-year production next year. The provision I secured in the House—which was supported by the bipartisan Shipbuilding Cacus—has massive economic benefits that will ripple, up and down the supply chain, across Connecticut.
  4. I signed the discharge petition today to force House Republicans to hold a vote on extending middle-class tax cuts. Americans overwhelmingly support efforts to avert the fiscal cliff and a balanced approach to avoiding sequestration. Resolving the issue of taxes would bring us closer to both goals. Watch my speech from earlier today:
  5. ICYMI: Great story in The Day over the weekend about Millstone's two new apprenticeship programs to train and hire veterans. As the Congressman representing Connecticut's most veteran-heavy district, I am confident that efforts like this coupled with new veterans hiring tax credits, are moving us forward.
  6. Reforms from the Affordable Care Act are already improving Medicare’s long-term outlook by reducing its costs and bending the cost curve. Check out my op-ed from today’s Politico about why changes to Medicare should not be part of the ongoing fiscal cliff negotiations.
  7. The sixth grade class at Mabelle Avery Middle School in Somers has done a wonderful job with a fundraising effort in support of Afghanistan veteran SFC Micah Welintukonis. Watch my floor speech from this morning applauding their great work.
  8. Three eastern Connecticut veterans today will be inducted into the Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame. Congratulations to Manuel M. Cardoza of Preston, Paul F. Dillon of Gales Ferry, and Herbert T. Schacht of Quaker Hill. Thank you all for your service.
  9. Housing prices rose for a sixth straight month, and consumer confidence hit a four-year high today. These are good signs of an economic recovery, but as Congress reconvenes this week, we see how critical it is to work together to prevent sequestration’s across-the-board cuts.
  10. On behalf of Audrey, Bobby and Lizzy, happy Thanksgiving to all!
  11. Nice story in the Enfield Patch about yesterday’s Turkey Drive at the Enfield Food Shelf. Their fantastic team of volunteers is expected to help more than 500 families have a better Thanksgiving this year. Whether you’re traveling or staying near home this year, from my family to you and yours, have a safe, healthy, very happy Thanksgiving.
  12. I had the opportunity today to pass out Thanksgiving turkeys at the Enfield Food Shelf’s Turkey Drive. This is one of many such initiatives across eastern Connecticut that is helping those in need this holiday season.

  13. I visited the FEMA/SBA Disaster Recovery Center in Groton this morning. In the wake of Sandy, if residents and businesses affected by the storm need FEMA or SBA assistance, the center is open from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. And make sure you register at www.disasterassistance.gov

  14. Earlier this year, Bevin Brothers in East Hampton was all but wiped out by a devastating fire. Today they are rebuilding, and their comeback story is inspiring. Watch the fantastic story from CBS News:
  15. Met with a fantastic group of students from East Lyme and Salem as part of Princeton’s Model Congress. Great discussion about the responsibilities of a Member of Congress and some of the issues they are dealing with in Model Congress.

  16. Eastern Connecticut home sales continue to increase—a positive sign for our recovery. "Sustaining this recovery depends on sellers continuing to price their homes competitively,” said Doug Randall, chief executive of Randall Realtors.
  17. Today, I spoke on the House floor to honor the tremendous work of our first responders and Town officials in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Volunteers and first responders came together with the singular goal of getting the job done—a great blueprint for Congress to follow.
  18. There are a number of resources available to businesses and homeowners impacted by Hurricane Sandy. Many are compiled on my website at the link below, but please do not hesitate to use my offices in Norwich and Washington, DC, as resources in your time of need.
