  1. STAFF: Congressman Garamendi will appear on the House floor in a few minutes to discuss the latest on "fiscal cliff" negotiations. He'll be on the floor for an hour. You can watch live on C-SPAN TV or their online stream. http://www.c-span.org/Live-Video/C-SPAN/
  2. "Saving" Medicare by keeping people from getting Medicare is the wrong way to go. Raising the Medicare eligibility age to 67 would take health coverage away from 270,000 seniors, and it would force businesses, local governments, and these seniors to pay thousands more for health care. More in my blog post http://bit.ly/QSSowN and in this video:
  3. I recently recorded a video wishing happy holidays to our brave men and women in uniform serving abroad. It will play on the Pentagon Channel in the near future. Thank you so much to our military servicemembers at Travis Air Force Base, Beale Air Force Base, and around the world for their service to our country.

  4. On Friday, I convened a meeting with local rice farmers, duck hunters, agriculture industry leaders, conservationists, and Agriculture Committee Ranking Member Peterson to discuss the farm bill, water policy, and more. Read about it here: http://1.usa.gov/VR9NVM

  5. “While House Republicans call for more tax cuts for millionaires, they propose gutting Medicare benefits, including raising the age of eligibility. Seniors kicked off Medicare would face uncertainty, delayed treatments, and more expensive care. I won’t go there.” Read more in my op-ed on strengthening, instead of weakening, Medicare and retirement security:
  6. I wish a Happy Hanukkah to everyone celebrating this evening (and for another wonderful week) with family and friends. This holiday is also a reminder to us all that America draws strength from the diversity of our cultures, religions, and ideas: “E Pluribus Unum.”

  7. This week’s jobs report shows that American businesses added 147,000 jobs in November and 5.6 million over the past 33 months. The President and Congressional Democrats continue to advocate for middle class tax cuts and a job-creating, pro-growth agenda that revives long neglected sectors such as transportation, manufacturing, and education. 8. Today is the 71st anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, their families and World War II vets, including my late father, who was a Major in the Army.

  9. STAFF: Please note that our Washington, DC team is transitioning into a new office today. Staff there are very busy and phones will be shut off soon. If you need to reach us, you are advised to call Fairfield (707) 438-1822 or Walnut Creek (925) 932-8899. Thank you.
  10. We have a moral obligation to ensure seniors can retire in dignity. For that reason, I will do everything in my power to protect Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security for current and future retirees.
  11. Today, I signed a petition calling for the House of Representatives to immediately vote for tax cuts for the middle class. House Republicans continue to threaten the average middle class family with $2,000 more in taxes unless millionaires and billionaires receive a tax giveaway that they don’t need and our country can’t afford. Instead of hostage taking, we should agree to what we agree on: a tax cut for the middle class.
  12. I am pleased that the Senate passed the National Defense Authorization Act in a bipartisan fashion and included a needed pay raise for our men and women in uniform. I will continue to advocate for the vital missions at Travis Air Force Base and Beale Air Force Base, protection of our civil liberties, and an end to the war in Afghanistan. More:
  13. At around Noon PT/ 3 PM ET, I will lead a discussion on the House Floor on protecting retirement security for seniors. Watch live on C-SPAN on TV or through the link below. You can also follow as staff live-tweets at www.twitter.com/repgaramendi
  14. Closing the Prescription Drug Doughnut Hole: This year, 235,000 California seniors saved an average of nearly $600 on their prescription drugs because of the Affordable Care Act - needed relief. By the end of the decade, the health care law will completely close this gap in seniors' insurance coverage. More info at HealthCare.gov: http://1.usa.gov/SHYZIE
