WASHINGTON, DC— Congressman Mel Watt will moderate a panel discussion on how collaborative efforts led to development of the concept of Levine Center for the Arts and helped energize academic, social, economic and sustainable development and public engagement in the community.  This event will take place at the Mint Museum Uptown at Levine Center for the Arts – James B. Duke Auditorium at 500 South Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC 28202 on Friday, May 4, 2012 from 5pm – 6:30pm.  Panelist include: The Honorable Anthony Foxx, Mayor, City of Charlotte; Ron Kimble, Deputy City Manager, City of Charlotte; Barbara Ann Temple, Ph. D., Vice President, Education, Arts & Science Council; Cheryl Palmer, Director, Education, Mint Museum; Gordon C. James, Professional Artist and Robert Bush, SVP, Cultural & Community Investment, Arts and Science Council.

This free event is offered in conjunction with the 12th Congressional District High School Art Competition and is open to the public.  The Congressional Art Competition: An Artistic Discovery encourages and recognizes the rich artistic talents of our nation’s young people.  The 12th Congressional District competition is open to all high school students who reside, attend school or are enrolled in an art program in the 12th Congressional District. The winning entry will be displayed for one year in the Cannon Tunnel to the U. S. Capitol.  This year the Harvey B.
