Congressional Art Competition2013 Artistic Discovery Art Competition Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition, An Artistic Discovery, to recognize and encourage artistic talent in each Congressional district throughout the nation. My office is looking forward to once again conducting a 12th Congressional District competition which is open to all high school students who reside, attend school or are enrolled in an art program in the district. The competition is a great opportunity for students to showcase their talents in a professional gallery, be critiqued by noted visual arts professionals and possibly have their work chosen to be displayed for one year in the Cannon Tunnel to the U. S. Capitol. Guidelines for the 2013 competition will be posted as soon as they become available. An announcement will be made in January 2013 regarding when and where to submit entries along with when and where the reception and exhibit will be held. The 2012 winning entry, Breaking Free, a color pencil drawing by Jobana Trujillo Reyna, who was a student at Career Center High School in Winston-Salem, NC, is currently hanging in the Cannon Tunnel to the U. S. Capitol. Enjoy the photo gallery of the 12th Congressional District 2012 art competition event below.
