Scott Named Subcommittee Chairman

Will Chair House Agriculture Committee’s Subcommittee on Horticulture, Research, Biotechnology, and Foreign Agriculture

Washington D.C. – House Agriculture Committee Chairman, Frank D. Lucas of Oklahoma, today named U.S. Congressman Austin Scott (GA-08) the Chairman for the Subcommittee on “Horticulture, Research, Biotechnology, and Foreign Agriculture” for the 113th Congress. Chairman Lucas and Rep. Scott offered the following comments on today’s announcement:  

 

"I am pleased to have Congressman Scott serve as a Subcommittee Chairman.  I look forward to working with him in this new leadership role as we work to ensure the health and vitality of production agriculture and rural economies," said Chairman Frank D. Lucas of Oklahoma. 

 

Rep. Austin Scott commented, “I am honored Chairman Lucas has chosen me to lead this important Subcommittee. Horticulture, research, and foreign agricultural relations have and will continue to play a large role in our country’s economic recovery. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the subcommittee to develop legislation that will continue to help our farming communities.”

 

 

Background: The Horticulture, Research, Biotechnology, and Foreign Agriculture Subcommittee generally has jurisdiction in matters pertaining to, Fruits and vegetables, honey and bees, marketing and promotion orders, plant pesticides, quarantine, adulteration of seeds and insect pests, and organic agriculture, research, education and extension, biotechnology and foreign agriculture assistance, and trade promotion programs, generally.
