Securing America's Border

Securing our borders is not only an important for addressing illegal immigration, but it is a critical element to securing our nation from terrorists. Let’s not forget that it was our broken immigration system that enabled most of the 9-11 terrorists entry into the U.S.

Completing the southern border fence is a priority for me. And, in areas where there is no fence, we must put in place sophisticated technologies and other barriers to protect our borders from illegal crossings. We must also expedite the removal of criminal aliens and expand the authority of law enforcement to detain and deport alien gang members and other violent criminal aliens to keep our communities safe.

Implementing an entry-exit system that keeps track of who is entering and leaving the United States is a priority for me and it will help us enforce our immigration laws to ensure that visitors to the U.S. honor their visa deadlines. More than 40% of illegal immigrants in the U.S. consist of those who overstayed their visas.

And finally, we must have in place an employment verification system to make sure that employers are able to properly screen out job applicants who happen to be illegally in the U.S.
