The 5th District is home to diverse commercial, technological and retail centers. And many major corporations, including UPS, M&M Mars, BMW, Becton-Dickinson (BD), Jaguar Land Rover, American Shipping and Logistics, and Medco Health Solutions have 5th District addresses. Because of the district's close proximity to New York City, tens of thousands of residents commute to New York City on a daily basis, and many New York City companies have chosen to open satellite operations in the district.

Farmland preservation is a major priority in the western portion of the district to ensure the farms retain their natural beauty for generations to come.
