Following President Obama's visit to Virginia Beach, Congressman Scott Rigell (VA-2) spoke with Fox News about the looming defense cuts coming in January 2013, noting the President is 'doing nothing' to stop them from hurting national security and the economy. Rigell also spoke of the opportunities presented by Virginia's coastal energy, and asked the President to lift his full moratorium on off shore energy development.

There needs to be specific targeted taxes for Defense. There is not way Defense will be paid for nor will the Budget problems ever be gotten under control without a Defense Tax.

Mr. Rigell can't do this by himself, he needs the support of the President and his fellow members in Washington. The repurposing of the old Ford plant was a great idea but the wind turbine job was outsourced to China. Offshore energy would be a big deal for this area but some environmentalists won't let it happen. Remember what happened during some of the crisis' we've had in the past? When the military members are fighting elsewhere our city encountered some adverse effects to the local economy

cutting the PLANNED INCREASES in defense budget would not have a trickle down effect. The 'cuts' would only keep the budget the same. Not to mention, there isn't one giant pot of gold that the whole military gets their money from. It's far more complex than that. The private industry(service and restaurant)that exists in VB won't be affected from military cuts, Oceana is still going the be there."there's only one Commander in Chief"? what about the gridlocked legislating body that constrains him

Please, Mr Riggell is doing NOTHING to create jobs in Tidewater!! He had an opportunity to repurpose an empty Ford Plant into a wind turbine plant because we have amazing wind 15 miles off shore!!!!!! How many jobs did he create with that? Did he step up and make it happen? NO
