WASHINGTON, DC -- Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) appeared yesterday on Fox News to discuss the impact of sequestration's defense cuts on America's military readiness.

    In response to a letter from Senator Wicker defending his position:

    Yes. Defense is a Federal responsibility. Militarism and creating jobs is not. Your op-ed piece and your Fox News interview very clearly takes the very socialistic view of militarism and not defense. Job creation is not the job of the Federal Government. Your job is to protect our INDIVIDUAL freedom and allowing us free markets for the PRIVATE sector to grow which will naturally cause job creation.

    With the war ending in Iraq, the Pentagon has budgeted 44 billion (cut from 88 billion) for Iraq and Afghanistan.Taking the budget from $700 billion to $600 billion a year. We've yet to hear anyone really make an argument why year 2000 levels of spending aren't sufficient if there's no wars going on. If we're not fighting these wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, why do we have to sustain a budget of $44 billion there?
