Sens. Wicker, Cochran Announce $300,000 for Coahoma County Ethanol Plant

Tuesday, October 21, 2008

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sens. Roger Wicker and Thad Cochran today announced the Delta Regional Authority (DRA) has approved a $300,000 grant to Coahoma County to complete infrastructure improvements associated with the new ethanol plant being located in the county.  The project will create 50 new full time jobs.

Coahoma County Renewable Energy, LLC is in the process of developing a 100 million gallon ethanol plant utilizing corn as a feedstock.  The infrastructure improvements including water, sewer, gas lines, roads, and rail must be in place for the plant to locate in the county.

“Updating Mississippi’s infrastructure is key to increasing economic activity in the state,” Wicker said.  “This grant provides important funding for infrastructure improvements that will lead to 50 new jobs in Coahoma County.”

In addition to the DRA grant, local sources will provide $1,800,000 and state sources will provide $1,700,000, bringing the total project funding to $3,800,000.
