Wicker Floor Remarks on 2nd Anniversary of Oil Spill
WASHINGTON, DC -- Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) today spoke on the Senate Floor regarding the upcoming second anniversary of the Deep Horizon explosion and oil spill. Wicker urged the House of Representatives to pass the RESTORE Act, which would direct Clean Water Act fines resulting from the incident to Mississippi and other Gulf states that were affected. The Senate passed the legislation last month as part of the Highway Bill reauthorization. In part, Wicker said: "I urge the House of Representatives to show the same support for the Gulf Coast in passing this important piece of legislation. Both parties can agree that the revitalization of our Gulf States is a priority and that local leaders are instrumental to recovery efforts. The accident that occurred two years ago was an extraordinary tragedy with long-term consequences, and we cannot forget about the needs that persist."
