What is the State of the Union?
3rd Annual Essay Contest for Vermont High School Students
WHAT — Senator Sanders' 3rd Annual State of the Union Essay Contest. Write an essay of 250 to 500 words about your view of the "state of the union" just as the President prepares to present his State of the Union address to the nation (scheduled for late January). Finalists will have their essays published in the Congressional Record. The winner will have the opportunity to invite Senator Sanders to his/her high school to discuss what we can do to address the major problems facing the country.
WHO — Vermont high school students
HOW — Think about what the United States should be doing to address the major concerns we face as a nation. How are families coping with the most severe recession since the Great Depression? How is the United States doing on issues of concern to young people? What are the major issues facing the country and what should be done to address those issues?
WHY — You have opinions. You should be heard.
WHEN — Essays must be submitted by 12:00 noon on Tuesday, January 8th, 2013.
