This week, Congress and the President reached a deal on the first portion of the fiscal cliff dealing with taxes. As our nation continues to be burdened with chronic high unemployment and a sluggish economy, I believe it is imperative to make critical parts of our tax code permanent to provide much-needed certainty in the marketplace. That is why I proudly supported the deal that was reached to avert the automatic tax increase that would hit every North Texas family and small business – an action that would have cost jobs and pushed our economy into another recession.

In order to explain the vote we took this week in more detail, I have recorded a short video that you can view below. In the coming weeks, I will continue to provide you with more information and update you on the House’s progress to tackle the second portion of the fiscal cliff – addressing government spending.

113th Congress

This week, I was honored to be sworn in as the representative for Texas’ 32nd Congressional District for the 113th Congress. As we approach a new year and a new Congress, my priorities will continue to center on job creation, economic growth, and smaller, more-efficient government that fulfills its responsibility to the American people.

As you may remember, I was appointed to serve as the Chairman of the House Rules Committee for the 113th Congress. In this new role, I will work to ensure that the House can perform our constitutional duties and obligations with integrity and transparency. Building on the work of House Republicans in the 112th Congress, I am committed to an open, deliberative and fair process. I look forward to keeping you updated on my work in this new legislative session and hope for a more prosperous 2013 for North Texans. To learn more about what Congress is working on and my priorities, visit my websiteFacebook pageYouTube and Twitter
