Awards and Involvement
As your Member of Congress, I am dedicated to serving on community service boards and other various groups to benefit the greater Dallas area. I am honored to have been recognized with many awards and accomplishments – a few of which are listed below. I am extremely proud of these achievements and to represent the interests of North Texans in Congress.
Community Service Boards
Circle Ten Council, Boy Scouts of America
I have been associated with the Boy Scouts of America since 1965. As an Eagle Scout, former Scout Master to 13 Scouts, district chairman for the White Rock district, and parent of two scouts with Troop 890 in Dallas, I am honored to serve as an executive member of the council. I also serve as a committee member of the National Eagle Scout Association.
HomeAid Dallas
As an Advisory Board Member for HomeAid Dallas, I am pleased to support the work of HomeAid Dallas/Home Builders Care, a program that increases the availability of dignified housing for homeless families and individuals committed to turning their lives around.Dallas Northeast Chamber of Commerce
Since 1989, I have been an active member of the Chamber, serving as its Chairman prior to my election to Congress. My duties as an Advisory Board member keep me in touch with this community-based chamber.Disciples of Holy Trinity

I was selected as an honorary member of the bilateral organization to promote trade, investment and joint ventures on both sides of the border. I have been a member since May 21, 1999 and continues to help businesses bridge differences in legal, regulatory and economic systems, as well as language and culture.Southwestern University
Since 2007, I have proudly served as a trustee of Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. I graduated from Southwestern University in 1978 with a B.S. in Political Science.For the Love of the Lake
In Adopt–A–Shoreline, I have been an active team leader since 1996 and responsible for cleaning up a section of the west side of White Rock Lake. It is perhaps one of my favorite opportunities to be outside with friends and Scouts to ensure that two of his favorite messages, volunteerism and conservation, are demonstrated within the community.Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
I have worked with the foundation since 2001 and continue to take initiative on legislation in order to help the organization work towards its goal of finding a cure for juvenile diabetes. I was honored to join President Bush in supporting the doubling of their funding.White Rock YMCA
With my long-time involvement with YMCA chapters, I am pleased to be a member of the Board of Management for the White Rock YMCA. I believes that community centers like YMCA serve a vital role in building a brighter future for families and neighborhoods, providing opportunities for physical, mental and spiritual growth.Awards
