Vitter Sworn in for Second Term as Louisiana’s U.S. Senator

(Washington, D.C.) — U.S. Sen. David Vitter today was sworn in by Vice President Joe Biden for his second term as Louisiana’s U.S. Senator. Vitter took the oath of office shortly after noon (view video here).

“Wendy and I are honored to be chosen by the people of Louisiana to continue to serve and fight for them in Washington. And I’m particularly excited about the new makeup here in Congress, with many more colleagues committed to an agenda of mainstream conservative reforms,” said Vitter. “I’ll continue to keep my focus on important Louisiana needs like restoring our coast and ending the job-killing de facto moratorium, while also advocating for major national priorities like fiscal responsibility and repealing Obamacare.”

Vitter invited U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu to join him as a guest at today’s swearing-in. Also joining Vitter as a guest was U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl of Arizona, who serves as the Republican Whip.

Prior to his historic 2004 election to the Senate, Vitter served as U.S. Congressman for Louisiana’s 1st Congressional District. He will now serve Louisiana as U.S. Senator again for the next six years.
