Each year I have the pleasure of nominating outstanding young men and women from the 21st District to four of the United States' military service academies. Each applicant for a nomination must meet the following eligibility requirements as of July 1st of the year of admission to an academy:

AGE: Be between 17 and 23 years old.

CITIZENSHIP: Must be a U.S. citizen.

Applicants are carefully evaluated based on numerous qualifications. These include character, scholarship, leadership, physical fitness, medical fitness and motivation.

Interested students should contact my office in Kerrville in the spring of their junior year in high school to begin the application process.

All application materials for the entering class of 2013 must be postmarked by October 20, 2012.

NOTE: The US Coast Guard does not require a Congressional appointment. Appointments are considered solely on the basis of an annual nationwide competition.
