REP. ENGEL ADDRESSES NEW YORK'S ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS WITH EPA ADMINISTRATOR

Washington, DC -- Congressman Eliot Engel (D-NY-17) asked Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson about several issues important to residents in New York including questions on the safety of fracking and the state of natural gas development, how the federal government can aid in upgrading New York’s aging sewer and water systems, and how the EPA can aid in removing PCBs from New York City schools.

Rep. Engel’s questions to Administrator Jackson Tuesday when she testified before the joint hearing of the Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittees on Energy and Power and Environment and the Economy, can be viewed at – http://youtu.be/51Ie840tLbc

Rep. Engel, a senior member of the Energy and Power Subcommittee, said, “I appreciate the kind of pressure she is under as the Republican Majority has been fixated on the EPA since they took power, regardless of how many other issues fail to get attention.  The American people are looking to Congress to come to a bipartisan agreement on how to put more people back to work, not on how we can weaken the EPA and put our clean water, air and natural resources at increased risk.  I look forward to working with Administrator Jackson on these issues, and many others, in the near future.”
