Sen. Brown Announces New Resources to Bolster Firefighter Safety in Lorain County

FY 2011 Funding Will Help to Improve Preparedness and Response of Firefighters in LaGrange

WASHINGTON, D.C. – New federal resources have been awarded to a fire department in Lorain County. U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the Carlisle Township Fire Department in LaGrange has been awarded resources for operations and safety, as well as vehicle acquisition, by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program.

“Our first responders put their lives on the line every day across Ohio,” said Brown. “These funds ensure that firefighters in LaGrange have the resources they need to perform their jobs safely.”

This is round seven of the competitive Fiscal Year 2011 AFG announcements. The Carlisle Township Fire Department was awarded $15,143 for operations and safety and $240,350 to acquire a new vehicle.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program helps firefighters and other first responder purchase protective equipment, vehicles, and gear, according to FEMA.
