111th Congress: Action on Environment & Natural Resources

During the 111th Congress, I have agreed to co-sponsor the following selected measures which deal with environment and natural resources issues. This is not a comprehensive list of all the legislation I have co-sponsored related to environment and natural resources. You can view a comprehensive list at the Legislation Co-Sponsored Section of this site or through the Library of Congress Thomas site.

Legislation I have supported includes:

  • S. 868, the Fee Repeal and Expanded Access Act.  A bill to repeal certain provisions of the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act.  Introduced April 22, 2009.
  • S. 1005, the Water Infrastructure Financing Act.  A bill to amend the Federal Water Pollution Control Act and the Safe Drinking Water Act to improve water and wastewater infrastructure in the United States. Introduced May 7, 2009.
  • H.R. 146, the Omnibus Public Land Management Act (which included the Owyhee Public Lands Management Act).  An act to designate certain land as components of the National Wilderness Preservation System, to authorize certain programs and activities in the Department of the Interior and the Department of Agriculture, and for other purposes. This measure created the first wilderness in Idaho in nearly 30 years.  Introduced January 6, 2009.

Other actions I have taken to support Idaho environment and natural resources initiatives:

  • Advocated for critical Idaho environment and natural resources initiatives in FY2010 Budget.
  • Led a bipartisan letter to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior and Environment, requesting full funding for the Forest Landscape Restoration Act.  Click here to read the letter, which was sent on June 10, 2009.
  • Signed two letters supporting funding for Rural Community Assistance Partnerships, which support rural water and wastewater needs.  To read the letters, click here and here.
  • Requested full funding for the Pacific Coastal Salmon Recovery Fund.  Click here to read the letter.
  • Led bipartisan effort to support funding for the endangered species program.  Click here to read the letter.
  • Joined with several Senate colleagues to protest EPA's proposal to establish unnecessary dust regulations.  Click here to read the letter.
  • Joined with the Idaho delegation to urge EPA to use a locally-driven cleanup effort in the Silver Valley.  Click here to read the letters sent to the EPA.
