Mission Statement

Cities are one of this nation's most important economic, strategic and civic resources. They serve as centers for art, culture, finance and house many of our most important academic institutions.  Some of our cities are suffering from declining economic fortunes, deteriorating infrastructure and rising crime rates, while others are finding new ways to transform themselves and compete in an increasingly competitive global marketplace.

The federal government has a unique role in fostering the development and continued renaissance of our great American Cities.  During the 112th Congress, the Congressional Urban Caucus is chaired by Representatives Chaka Fattah and Michael Turner.  The mission of the Urban Caucus is to convene Members representing America's metropolitan centers.  These Members will work collaboratively with other stakeholders to address the unique challenges that America's urban communities face.
