A Christmas Message from Martha

Dec 21, 2012

The Christmas season is a great time to reflect on the past year and look forward toward our hopes for the next. It’s a time to count our blessings and thank God for all He has bestowed upon us.

One of his most precious blessings is the freedom we enjoy here in the United States; the freedom to speak, to gather, to worship. That freedom is sometimes taken for granted, but it was paid for at a high cost. For generations – soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines have sacrificed to preserve and protect our freedom.  This Christmas, let’s be mindful of the brave men and women of our military – many serving right now in harm’s way, spending the holidays away from their families. To those of you currently in the military or the national guard - to our veterans who have served – and to military families – thank you for your service to this country.

Christmas is also a time to remember those who are struggling through what has been a difficult year for our country. Many families have lost loved ones, some in extremely tragic circumstances. Many have lost jobs and are struggling to make ends meet in a difficult economy.

This holiday season, please join me in praying for those who are hurting, and in doing our part to help and comfort our neighbors in need. A spirit of compassion has a power no government can match. Whether it is through donating your money to a worthy charity or just giving your time, we can all contribute to making this holiday season a little brighter for families who are struggling.

Not a day goes by that I am not aware of the distinct honor you have given me to represent you in Washington. There is a lot on our plate right now in Congress. We’re faced with decisions that will impact generations of Americans in a profound way.

Please rest assured that I go to work every day trying to do what’s in the best interest of Alabama’s Second District.  If you have a concern or a particular need we can help you with, please contact me through the website or get in touch with one of my helpful staff members.

Thank you for the privilege of representing you in Congress. From my husband Riley, and our children Margaret and George, Merry Christmas! May God bless you and your family and may He continue to bless our great country.

Sincerely,
Martha
