Energy

We live in a nation blessed with significant natural energy resources, as well as the talent and innovation to responsibly develop them. But even when faced with today's high fuel prices and economic headwinds, some in Washington still lack the will to advance forward-thinking policies that will lower energy costs, make America more energy independent, and spur economic growth and job creation in Pennsylvania. This is unacceptable, and Senator Pat Toomey is committed to sensibly unlocking our nation's resources and reforming regulations so the American people can have access to affordable energy.

Among other things, Sen. Toomey believes we can reduce our dependence on foreign oil and lower prices by developing our energy sources right here at home. He supports allowing more oil exploration in Alaska, the Outer Continental Shelf and the vast oil shale reserves in America's western states. He also recognizes the unique potential of the Marcellus Shale, one of the largest natural gas reserves in the world, to create more jobs, more economic growth and more affordable energy for Pennsylvanians. In 2011, Sen. Toomey cut through federal red tape to secure a maritime waiver for a new, job-creating $300 million natural gas transportation project in Marcus Hook.

In addition, Pennsylvania and the rest of the country will continue to get a vast amount of our power from abundant coal produced here in Pennsylvania. It is vital that development of these resources be carried out in an environmentally-responsible manner.

Sen. Toomey will also continue fighting for common-sense federal energy policies and against regulations that will make energy more expensive or cost Pennsylvania jobs. This Congress, he has cosponsored legislation that would streamline federal gasoline regulations to lower prices at the pump, stop federal bureaucrats from imposing a cap-and-trade energy tax and help develop more of our nation's energy resources in a responsible manner.
