    About
  1. I am saddened to learn of the loss of U.S. Navy SEAL Nicolas D. Checque of Monroeville, Pennsylvania. Our state and nation owe him and all who have given the last full measure of devotion our honor and respect. My sincere condolences to his family and comrades.
  2. To all those Pennsylvanians celebrating, my best wishes for a Happy Hanukkah.
  3. Please take a moment to remember Pearl Harbor today and thank a World War II veteran for their service.
  4. The Senate has passed a bipartisan resolution I cosponsored which calls for the immediate and unconditional release of Alan Gross from imprisonment in Cuba. I thank my Senate colleagues for joining me in this, and I urge the Cuban government to release Alan on humanitarian grounds. It’s time for him to come home.
  5. Congratulations to Sen. Jim DeMint on being named the next president of the Heritage Foundation. In eight years, he has personally led the effort to change the composition of the Senate for the better, and provided consistent and principled leadership in the fight for liberty and limited government. He will be missed in the Senate, but I'm confident he'll continue to play an important role in the public debate about the future of our country. I wish him all the best.

  8. My wife, Kris, and Mrs. Terese Casey, wife of Sen. Bob Casey, hosted a tribute at the U.S. Capitol today to honor the passengers and crew of Flight 93 and raise awareness for the still unfinished national memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

  9. I urge President Obama to abandon his unserious fiscal cliff proposal and join concerned lawmakers in resolving the real crux of the problem: out-of-control government spending.
  10. I just voted against the UN CRPD.
  11. To raise awareness of the unfinished national memorial, my wife Kris will host a tribute to the heroes of Flight 93 in the Capitol Visitors Center tomorrow.
  12. I spoke about my Clothe a Homeless Hero Act this morning at Philadelphia’s Veterans Multi-Service & Education Center. This bipartisan bill requires the Transportation Security Administration to work with the Department of Veterans Affairs and local charities to distribute unclaimed clothing left at airport security to homeless and needy vets and their families.

  13. I joined my wife, Kris, on Fox News to talk about the need to finish the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, PA to honor the courageous men and women who gave their lives for our country.
  14. If your group is interested in applying to participate in the 2013 inauguration parade, the deadline is noon today. Sign up on the Joint Task Force National Capital Region’s Inaugural Parade website:
  15. I’ve cosponsored two bipartisan amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act to help prevent sexual harassment and assault in our armed forces. The first would require a comprehensive Defense Department plan of prevention and response. The second would require the department to include in its annual report on sexual assault the types of disciplinary action imposed.
  16. In case you missed it, I spoke with Bill Bennett this morning about the fiscal cliff. We don’t have a revenue problem - we have a spending problem. I urge President Obama to offer real ideas on spending cuts and pro-growth tax reform when he comes to Pennsylvania tomorrow.
  17. I’ve introduced a bipartisan bill requiring the Transportation Administration to work with Veterans Affairs and local charities to distribute unclaimed clothing left at airport security to homeless and needy vets and their families. My thanks to Rep. Kathy Hochul (D-N.Y.) for working to pass this in the House. I hope the Senate will do likewise.
  18. In case you missed it, Larry Kudlow and I discussed the fiscal cliff last night. The real problem is massive government spending. I hope President Obama will show leadership on this key issue. There’s still time to get this done.
  19. President Obama has nominated three judges recommended by Sen. Casey and I for Pennsylvania’s Eastern District. I’ve been working closely with Sen. Casey on judicial nominations for our state. Our goal is to confirm qualified, experienced and honest individuals. I am confident that these three nominees will live up to these standards.
  20. I welcome the president’s visit to Pennsylvania this Friday and hope he will answer my questions on the fiscal cliff. See them here:
  21. I'll be on WHP 580 Harrisburg at 8:09 a.m. Listen live here:

  22. Happy birthday to the Pennsylvania National Guard. First formed by Benjamin Franklin in Philadelphia, they celebrate 265 years of service to our state and country today.
