Water Resources Development Act 2010 Projects

The following projects were submitted to the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee to be included in the Water Resources Development Act of 2010.  They are listed in no particular order.

  • Cedar Creek Flood Control project.  Reconstruct existing Passaic River bulkhead and Cedar Creek outfall, tidegates and pump station to prevent frequent flooding in South Kearny. 
  • Essex County Mapping of Stormwater Facilities project.  Geographic Information System (GIS)/Global Positioning System (GPS) mapping of stormwater facilities for Essex County’s 22 municipalities, to help reduce flooding and related problems.
  • Hudson County Lincoln Park West Environmental Restoration project.  Project will convert 31 acres of degraded freshwater wetlands/landfill to tidal and intertidal high vigor wetlands and restore tidal flow to a pond.
  • Jersey City Dam and Reservoir Improvement projects.  Replace mud gates & secondary valves, repair low level outlet, reconstruct gate houses, construct floodwall, and replace fence and culvert.  
  • Jersey City Water Transmission Mains project.  Clean and line 20,000 ft water main, replace 25 large valves and construct 30” water transmission. 
  • Jersey City Aqueducts project. Clean and line 10,000 foot of the 108” diameter concrete tunnel and pipe and conduct a corrosion and cathotic protection study of the twin 72” aqueducts.
  • North Hudson Sewer Infrastructure project.  Restore combined sewer infrastructure and appurtenant system to alleviate combined sewer overflows and flooding of areas susceptible to storm damage.
  • Rahway River Watershed project.  Rahway River Watershed Critical Restoration Project to include initiation and completion of a General Management Plan and related pilot projects.
  • City of Newark request to extend boundaries of the Joseph G. Minish Passaic Riverfront Park and Historic Area in three areas (Eastern Ironbound extension, Gateway extension, Northern extension) to create community facilities and recreational opportunities.
  • North Atlantic Coastal and Marine Management Plan project.  Authority for North Atlantic Division (“NAD”) Corps to complete Coastal/Marine Management Plan for ecosystem restoration in the North Atlantic region & implement Plan’s top projects.
  • City of Newark legislative language request to authorize the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to enter into a Project Cooperation Agreement (“PCA”) to construct park/recreation space in Phases II and III at the Joseph G. Minish Passaic Riverfront Park and Historic Area.
  • Perth Amboy Water Infrastructure Improvement Initiative project.  Repair water supply, wastewater, and storm water infrastructure denigrated by over a century of residential, industrial, and commercial use.  Implement a 5 year Capital Program identified 37 drinking water/water supply and 18 wastewater repair projects. 
  • Legislative language request to modify the New York and New Jersey Harbor Deepening Project and include environmental restoration and mitigation within the Hudson-Raritan Estuary. 
  • Legislative language request to enact legislation that supports dedicating full HMTF revenues for harbor maintenance projects across the nation.
