Caucuses and Coalitions

A congressional caucus is a group of members of the United States Congress that meets to pursue common legislative objectives. Formally, caucuses are formed as congressional member organizations (CMOs) through the United States House of Representatives and governed under the rules of that chamber. They are not always called caucuses, and are sometimes titled coalitions, study groups, task forces, or working groups.   I am currently a member of the following caucuses:

Afterschool Caucus, Member- The Afterschool Caucus educates colleagues on the role and importance of afterschool programs, and members support high quality, affordable, afterschool programs.

Community College Caucus, Member- The Community College Caucus recognizes the important and distinctive role community colleges play in the American Education system. Members support and promote dialogue on ways to improve our nation’s community colleges.

Congressional Academic Medicine Caucus, Member- The Congressional Academic Medicine Caucus is dedicated to maintaining and strengthening our nation's reputation as having the world's most advanced medical care. Members strive to educate their colleagues on the unique health care, research, and training missions of teaching hospitals and medical schools.

Congressional Bike Caucus, Member- The Congressional Bike Caucus works on behalf of cyclists, actively working for safer roads, more bikeways, convenient bike parking and increased recognition of the importance of cycling for transportation and recreation.

Congressional Caucus on Hellenic Issues, Member- The Congressional Caucus on Hellenic Issues works to foster and improve relations between the United States and Greece. The Caucus brings a renewed congressional focus on key diplomatic, military, and human rights issues in a critical part of the world. 

Congressional Former Mayors Caucus, Member- The Congressional Former Mayors Caucus highlights the issues impacting our nation's cities. The Former Mayors Caucus creates a forum for former Mayors to effectively address the broad range of policy issues impacting cities and towns throughout the country.

Congressional Friends of Spain Caucus, Member- The Congressional Friends of Spain Caucus aims to bring members of both parties together to strengthen, political, economic, and cultural ties between the United States and Spain. 

Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Member- The Congressional Hispanic Caucus aims to address national and international issues and the impact these policies pertaining to these issues has on the Hispanic Community.

Congressional Historic Preservation Caucus, Member- Members of the Congressional Historic Preservation Caucus work to encourage the preservation and thoughtful economic development of historic places in their districts and states as a matter of national policy. 

Congressional JOBS NOW! Caucus, Member- The Congressional JOBS NOW! Caucus consists of members who have pledged to come together across the political spectrum to discuss solutions to the jobs crisis. The JOBS NOW! Caucus declares that the nation’s jobless situation is, indeed, a national crisis, and politics must be put aside to discuss solutions that will help put America back to work.

Congressional Real Estate Caucus, Member- The Congressional Real Estate Caucus serves as a forum for members of Congress and real estate professionals to discuss federal policy and its impact on the nation's real estate industry.

Congressional Urban Caucus, Member- The mission of the Congressional Urban Caucus is to bring together Members who represent the nation’s metropolitan areas to help create a policy roadmap. The members of the Urban Caucus intend to foster discussion about the health of the nation’s metropolitan areas through policy forums, legislative proposals, and advocacy.

Congressional Tennis Caucus, Member - The mission of the Congressional Tennis Caucus is to promote the positive work and benefits of organized tennis in the United States.  Sports participation not only has tremendous health benefits, but also increases graduation rates and lowers rates of substance abuse and juvenile crimes.

Congressional House Mentoring Caucus, Member Members of the Congressional House Mentoring Caucus support the issue of mentoring and its positive effect on young people.

Diversity and Innovation Caucus, Member- The Diversity and Innovation Caucus’ mission is to generate policy ideas for increasing the participation of groups under-represented in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).  Additionally, the caucus communicates the importance of promoting diversity in STEM for the achievement of America's innovation and competitiveness goals.

Friends of Job Corps Congressional Caucus, Member- The Friends of Job Corps is a group of members of Congress, working together in an official capacity to serve as a unified voice for the thousands of economically disadvantaged youth, Job Corps serves annually, and for the millions of youth eligible for the program. 

Congressional Dyslexia Caucus, Member-  The House Dyslexia Caucus educates Members of Congress and the public about dyslexia while also identifying policies to support individuals with dyslexia.  Dyslexia is neurologically based and is often misdiagnosed or misunderstood.

The Goods Movement Caucus, Member- The Goods Movement Caucus is a bi-partisan caucus to address issues and concerns related to the reauthorization of TEA-21 and the dual roles that business and the mobilization of people play within the country’s transportation infrastructure.

Green Schools Caucus, Member- The Green Schools Caucus was formed as a way to educate and inform members of Congress on the enormous impact they have on our nation’s approach to new and existing school buildings. The Caucus empowers federal legislators to work together and with their constituents to take advantage of opportunities to make our schools greener, our students and teachers healthier and our communities stronger. 

House Impact Aid Coalition, Member- Members of the Impact Aid coalition promote a dialogue regarding the benefits aid has in the areas of education, healthcare, defense and labor, and armed services.

National Guard and Reserve Components Caucus, Member- Members of this caucus serve as advocates for our service men and women and promote dialogue on ways we can better support of men and women in uniform. 

International Religious Freedom Caucus, Member-  The Caucus was established in 2006 to ensure that religious freedom, which was so foundational to America's democratic history, remains a priority in U.S. foreign policy, international development, and refugee law.

Out of Poverty Caucus, Member- The COPC was formed in response to the rising numbers of Americans falling out of the middle class and into poverty due to the failed economic policies of the Bush Administration. Legislative priorities focus on reducing employment, improving education, and reducing hunger.

Democratic Caucus Seniors Task Force, Member- Members serve as advocates for our nation’s senior citizens, highlighting the impact cuts on Social Security and Medicare would have on this segment of our population.

Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, Member- Members of this bipartisan caucus promote, defend and advocate internationally recognized human rights norms in a nonpartisan manner.

American Hellenic Caucus, Member- Members of this caucus work to foster and improve relations between the United States and Greece. The Caucus brings a renewed congressional focus on key diplomatic, military, and human rights issues in a critical part of the world.

Brazil Caucus, Member- Members of the Brazil Caucus aims to improve dialogue and trade relations between the United States and Brazil.

Congressional Cuba Democracy Caucus, Member- The bicameral Cuba Democracy Caucus promotes discussion and proactive policies designed to hasten Cuba's transition towards a free and democratic society. 

Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Member- The CHC is dedicated to voicing and advancing, through the legislative process, solutions to the issues affecting Hispanics and Latinos in the United States and Puerto Rico.

Democratic Caucus Housing Stabilization Task Force, Member- Members of the Democratic Caucus Housing Stabilization Task force focus on creating solutions to the nation's residential housing crisis. Members aim to promote policy discussion on ways to help homeowners avoid foreclosure and stay in their homes. 

High Speed Rail and Intercity Passenger Rail Caucus, Member- Members of the High Speed Rail and Intercity Rail Caucus share President Obama’s vision to create a nationwide network of railways that rivals the interstate highway system. 

Latino-Jewish Congressional Caucus, Member- Members of the Latino-Jewish Congressional Caucus aim to unite interests and values held by the Latino and Jewish communities. Members recognize the importance of these two communities, with efforts aimed at building an even stronger relationship.

Livable Communities Task Force, Member- The Livable Communities Task Force recognizes that federal policies – from transportation to tax incentives to environmental regulations and everything in between – have a profound effect on the livability of communities. This Task Force seeks to identify the ways in which the federal government can affect community livability and improve Americans’ quality of life.

Venezuela Democracy Caucus, Member- Members of the Venezuela Democracy Caucus promote discussion and policies aimed at helping Venezuela maintain democratic ideals.
