Hurricane Sandy was an unprecedented storm that had a devastating impact on New Jersey. Residents with damaged or lost property may be eligible for federal assistance. Additionally, residents of the New Jersey counties most severely impacted by Sandy will be eligible to receive Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP) benefits to help cover the costs of food. Postage Unveiling in Hoboken

On December 7, 2012 Congressman Sires spoke at the Hoboken Post Office’s Holiday Ceremony, and met Hoboken students for the unveiling of the 2012 Santa and Sleigh Forever postage stamps.

Hoboken Transportation Terminal with Vice President Biden

On November 18, 2012, Congressman Sires toured the Hoboken transportation terminal with Vice President Biden, Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer, Senators Lautenberg and Menendez, and New Jersey Lt. Governer Kim Guadagno. Congressman Sires spoke about rapid recovery efforts, and getting residents of the 13th District back in their homes.

Damage in Hoboken Train/PATH Station

On November 2, 2012 Congressman Sires joined Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood and Senators Lautenberg and Menendez to assess damage in the Hoboken train/PATH station after Hurricane Sandy.

On October 22, 2012, Congressman Sires congratulated the Bayonne Fire Department at the groundbreaking of the New Bayonne Firehouse.

Mr. Speaker, today we mourn as a nation with Newtown, Connecticut and the Sandy Hook Elementary community. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of this horrendous tragedy and their families. On Friday, 27 people, including children, had their futures stolen from them as a result of another senseless act of violence. My heart breaks for their loved ones and the community of Newtown

Hudson, Essex, Middlesex, and Union counties, were hit particularly hard by Sandy. We have been fortunate to have a large team of federal, state, and local responders to assist in recovery efforts.
