Brown Applauds “Strategic Pause” In Senate Defense Authorization Bill; Move Will Preserve Planes And Personnel At Youngstown Air Reserve Station For At Least An Additional Year
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today applauded the news that the Senate Armed Services Committee has included a “strategic pause” in the Senate Fiscal Year 2013 Defense Authorization (NDAA) bill. The Air Force had proposed a shift in aircraft that would have resulted in a loss of two C-130 aircraft at the Station. The move will preserve the current number of C-130 planes and personnel at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station (YARS) for at least an additional year.
“By operating fixed-wing sprayers, the 910th Airlift Wing at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station has a one-of-a-kind mission, often helping to assist in disaster relief,” Brown said. “The Senate Armed Services Committee has done the right thing by including a strategic pause for the C-130 program, which ensures that the flying mission will remain at YARS for at least another year. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will be fighting to ensure that the funding is in place for the 910th Airlift Wing and YARS.”
