Agriculture

Agriculture has long been an important economic driver in Ohio’s 16^th Congressional District. With over 5,000 farms operating in his district, Jim is committed to serving as a strong advocate for the agriculture industry in Congress. As he has said, “Ohio farmers are feeding not just America, but the world.”

Defense & National Security

As America continues to face challenges to our national security, we must ensure that we have leaders in Washington who are committed to preserving our military strength and to policies that will aggressively combat threats to our way of life, both at home and abroad.

Healthcare

America has the highest quality medical care in the world, but we must take measures to reduce costs and make access to health insurance more affordable for everyone. One of Jim’s first votes in Congress was to repeal and replace the recent health care overhaul bill.  He believes the key to making health care more affordable lies with increasing competition and eliminating unnecessary overhead costs on the system, not with a new government takeover of the healthcare system.

Energy & Environment

Jim will forcefully oppose any legislation that will saddle Americans with a new energy tax or that threatens to kill America's domestic energy industry.  Jim supports an “all of the above” energy policy, including nuclear, clean coal, wind, biofuels, and American oil exploration.

Education

America’s school systems are struggling.  Our low international standing on the quality of education should serve as a call to arms to pursue smarter education policy.  Few issues have as great an impact on the future of our children as our record budget deficit and the quality of their education, both are of great importance to me.

Economy & Jobs

Encouraging economic growth and addressing the unacceptably high rate of unemployment in America remain two of Jim's highest priorities. He believes the government must create an environment in which private-sector jobs can expand, while providing reasonable assistance through unemployment insurance and other government programs to those who have lost their jobs in this troubling economic environment.

Spending Cuts & Debt

With our national debt at $14 trillion and counting, spending in Washington is dangerously out of control. In recent years, we have witnessed Washington engage in some of the most fiscally irresponsible policymaking in the history of this country. In Congress, Jim is working tirelessly to restore conservatism and accountability to our government.

Tax Reform

At a time when Americans are struggling to make ends meet and jobs are frighteningly scarce, the last thing Americans can afford are higher taxes. Jim supports across-the-board tax relief to ease the current financial strains on hardworking Americans and to help foster economic growth by keeping hard earned dollars at home and in the marketplace, rather than in the hands of Washington bureaucrats.
