Education

America’s school systems are struggling.  Our low international standing on the quality of education should serve as a call to arms to pursue smarter education policy.  Few issues have as great an impact on the future of our children as our record budget deficit and the quality of their education, both are of great importance to me.

The top down approach to education policy endorsed for so long has proven ineffective, one size does not fit all in this case.  Education is a personal experience, and one that is best handled through state, local, and parental involvement.  The needs of Jackson High School in Massillon or Wooster High School in Wooster are not the same as the needs of a high school in Arizona.  The federal government could more effectively facilitate learning by supporting these local entities, rather than handing them mandates.

There are several hurdles standing between our children and a quality education.  Our children and their parents need more options, opportunity, and quality in their education.  It will take a more intelligent and innovative approach if we are to provide the skills and knowledge necessary for the next generation to succeed.
