Ashland County

Special Information:

Ashland County produces over half of the world’s supply of toy balloons. It is also an area loved by Johnny Appleseed. It is said he would frequent the area and became close friends with all of the residents. Dairy products are the main agricultural industry. Other industries include; metals, machinery, transportation equipment, rubber, stone-clay-glass, chemicals, automotive equipment, home appliances and microphones.

Attractions:

Mochican State Park and Lodge- The Park is comprised of 1,110 acres with 5 miles of the scenic Clear Fork Branch of the Mohican River running through it. The recreational opportunities available to the park visitor include fishing, hiking, picnicking, camping, cottages and a resort lodge.

Ashland County Historical Society Museum - The Museum has three building displaying the county’s collections ranging from military weapons, insects and antique toys. The Ashland County Historical Society operates on donations and also has a quaint gift shop.

Medina County

Special Information:

Medina County takes its name from an Arabian city in which Mohammed is buried. The county seat was originally named Mecca, but it is presently called Medina. Principle industries in the county include: metals, rubber, food, machinery, candles, aluminum castings, furnaces, automobile parts, and dairy products. The county no longer houses the vast farms of the past; manufacturing is now the major source of employment.

Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery – Located in Rittman, the United States National Cemetery has 273 acres for veterans and their families. There is also a beautiful pathway lined with over a hundred memorials.

Military Aviation Preservation Society (MAPS) Air Museum - MAPS Air Museum is an internationally known museum of aviation and serves as a center of aviation history for Northeast Ohio. The museum features exciting educational displays of its collection of acquired artifacts, interactive exhibits and historical archives in its own library.

National First Ladies Library and Research Center - Founded in 1995 and expanded several times since, the National First Ladies Library has brought further historical acclaim to the City of Canton as the only facility dedicated to the lives of America's First Ladies. With ribbon-cuttings at every step of the way by former First Ladies Rosalynn Carter (1998) and Hillary Rodham Clinton (1999), as well as the dedication of the newest facility in 2003 by First Lady Laura Bush, this historical museum is a must-see for women and men of all ages.

Pro Football Hall of Fame - Since opening in 1963, the NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame has seen millions of visitors walk through its hallowed halls to pay tribute to the legendary heroes of professional football. Every year, the nation watches as a new class of enshrines are inducted during an incredible celebration of sporting history, including a nationally televised football game and weeklong enshrinement festival. Wayne County

Special Information:

A rich agricultural community. The county, which had a strong connection to the Revolutionary War, was named for "Mad" Anthony Wayne, a war colleague of George Washington. Wooster, the county seat since 1808, was also named for war hero General David Wooster. Today, Wayne County is the 13th largest county in Ohio covering over 550 square miles. Its industries are mainly manufacturing, education, transportation, and technology and healthcare companies.

Ohio Light Opera The Resident Performing Company of the College of Wooster has been entertaining audiences since 1979. Every summer they offer the best of the lyric style theater tradition at Freelander Theater. Thousands come from all over the country to watch their operettas, such as plays by Gilbert & Sullivan.

Wayne County Fair Established in 1849, the fair is held in Wooster, the county seat, every fall. The expansive fairgrounds has food and entertainment for all ages from tractor pulls, demolition derbies, live concerts, livestock judging and farm produce exhibitions.
