Agriculture has long been an important economic driver in Ohio’s 16^th Congressional District. With over 5,000 farms operating in his district, Jim is committed to serving as a strong advocate for the agriculture industry in Congress. As he has said, “Ohio farmers are feeding not just America, but the world.”

Jim believes that an investment in agriculture is an investment in America’s future, as a thriving farming industry can serve as a bedrock for a thriving U.S. economy. Agriculture not only feeds millions of American families every day, but also has the potential to fuel job growth and an economic recovery at a time when we need it most.

In Congress, Jim has consistently voted on behalf of farmers, working to strip away unnecessary and overly burdensome government red tape. Earlier this year, Jim co-sponsored H.R. 910, the Energy Tax Prevention Act, a bill that will prohibit the EPA from enforcing overbearing regulations on green house gasses and products that are used in the agriculture industry. Jim is also a strong opponent of the cap-and-trade national energy tax, which would drive energy prices through the roof and would result in a permanent drought season for farmers.

Another core issue on which Jim has fought for farmers is the Death Tax. Throughout his time on the campaign trail and his first months in office, Jim has continually listened to the concerns over the death tax put forth by the agriculture community . That’s why in March 2011, Jim co-sponsored H.R. 206, a bill that would permanently repeal the Federal Death Tax, wiping crippling taxes off the books that prevent family farmers from passing their farm on to future generations.
