Sen. Brown Announces New Resources to Improve Health Care Equipment In Highland County

Appalachian Regional Commission Grant Will Help Fund New Digital Mammography System in Hillsboro

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Highland Joint Township District Hospital in Highland County received new federal resources to upgrade the hospital’s breast cancer screening services. U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) awarded a $162,500 grant for Highland Joint Township District Hospital in Hillsboro to purchase a Siemens Healthcare Mammomat Inspiration Digit Mammography System.

“Residents in Southern Ohio rely on a modern health care system unhindered by geographical distance through the Highland Joint Township District Hospital,” Brown said. “These federal resources will ensure that patients who undergo breast cancer screenings will receive efficient, high-tech care.”

According to the Appalachian Regional Commission, the new system will allow the hospital to conduct 3,000 mammograms annually. The new system will replace the analog film unit that the hospital currently uses. In addition to the ARC funds, local resources will provide $162,500 for the program.
