Sen. Brown Announces More than $740K To Bolster Stow Fire Department In Summit County
Funding will Help Hire and Retain Firefighters
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that $743,741 has been awarded to the Stow Fire Department by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration. The funds, awarded through the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response program (SAFER), will be used to recruit firefighters.
“First responders put their lives on the line every day across Ohio,” said Brown. “These funds will help the Stow Fire Department maintain the adequate staffing they need to protect their communities.”
SAFER grants bolster fire departments' ability to respond to fires and fire-related hazards, along with their overall level of preparedness. These round four funds can be used for recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters and hiring firefighters. The funds provide for salaries, benefits, and general equipment needs.
