Additional information will be posted on this page as Inaugural event schedules and service plans are finalized.
Preorder Metro's 2013 commemorative SmarTrip® card now and own a piece of history. The reusable plastic card comes pre-loaded with a One-Day Pass that provides unlimited travel on Metrorail on the day it is first used. Each commemorative SmarTrip® costs $15 - just $1 more than the cost of a regular one-day pass and $4 less than the cost of purchasing a SmarTrip® card and One-Day Pass separately. As an added bonus, your commemorative SmarTrip® can be used as a "flash pass" for unlimited Metrobus travel on Inauguration Day.
Once the One-Day Pass is used, you can reload your commemorative SmarTrip® card just like a regular SmarTrip® card.
Supplies are limited, so preorder a card today for everyone in your group! Cards are expected to ship in mid-December.
In anticipation of large crowds, Metrorail will operate rush hour service from 4 a.m. to 9 p.m., on Inauguration Day, Monday, January 21. Metro will have extra personnel on hand to help customers get to and from events.
Please take note of the following important tips:
Stations Near the National Mall
Several downtown Metrorail stations entrances will be designated as exit-only or entry-only to safely manage crowds. Also, some escalators may be turned off to "meter" the flow of customers entering the system.
Bicycles will not permitted on Inauguration Day.
Due to space restrictions, tour buses are prohibited from discharging passengers at Metrorail stations at any time. Only authorized buses will be permitted onto Metro station property. Tour bus operators are strongly encouraged to follow the drop off procedures that will be outlined on the Washington DC Inauguration website. Detailed plans on transportation routes and parking locations will be available within the next few weeks.
