Brown introduces resolution honoring baseball labor leader

Sen. Sherrod Brown last week introduced a Senate resolution honoring a former executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Association.

Marvin Miller, who served as executive director from 1966 to 1982, died Nov. 27. He negotiated the first collective bargaining agreement of the players union and team owners in 1968. He later won the players’ right to have grievances heard by an impartial arbitrator, and gained a limited right to have salary demands subjected to arbitration. Miller was on the ballot five times, he was never inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The resolution recognizes Miller as “one of the greatest contributors to the labor movement, the game of baseball and professional sports,” and honors Miller for his “work to ensure equity and fairness in labor-management relations.” It also extends condolences to Miller’s family.
