Washington, D.C. - The Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee (HASC), Representative Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R-Calif.), has selected Representative Rob Wittman (VA-1) as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Readiness for the 113th Congress. Wittman is currently Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, and will assume the Readiness chairmanship when the 113th Congress begins in January. Following normal committee process, the subcommittee structure and jurisdictions will be ratified as part of the overall committee rules during a full HASC organizational meeting in January.

“It has been an honor to serve as Chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee over the last two years, and I am humbled that Chairman McKeon has now chosen me to lead the Readiness Subcommittee during a period that will certainly see many challenges for our military planners,” Wittman said. “This position brings with it tremendous responsibilities, and I look forward to ensuring that our dedicated servicemen and women are properly and effectively resourced, both as they are conducting their missions and when they return home. Our military faces countless challenges around the globe, and responsible, strategic planning is critical for maintaining the strength of our forces and the safety of our people. The Readiness Subcommittee has a critical role in this process, and I am eager to work with Chairman McKeon, Ranking Member Smith, and my colleagues on HASC in the 113th Congress.”

Chairman McKeon commented, “Rob Wittman has exhibited superb leadership as Chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee over the last two years, and I am pleased to announce his appointment as the Readiness Subcommittee Chairman for the 113th Congress. Rob’s commitment to our military and thorough understanding of the national security issues facing our nation will be great assets to this committee and to our country as we address these challenges.”
